This post is part of a series outlining the basics of each seasonal color palette. If you’re looking to become acquainted with the palettes, this is a good place to start.
Common Presentations of Dark Autumn
Dark Autumn, like all seasons, has a huge range in terms of what they can look like. These Dark Autumn celebrity examples are merely a guess, since we can’t know what they would look like in real life with every season tried following proper methodology, however in photos they resemble exemplars I have personally seen. Please keep in mind that any season can present with any hair, skin and eye color.
Dark Autumn Hair Colors: These can range from lighter shades of auburn or brown to black. The average natural color is probably a medium-dark brunette, with the more defining character being the undertones of bronze-green or rust.
Dark Autumn Eye Colors: Completely brown eyes and eyes that mix brown and green are seen frequently in people with this coloring. Teal blue eyes do occur and can mislead one to think of a different season even when hair and skin present very typically. Typically, one can make out some warmth to the eye, though some blue eyes here may appear cooler, and dark brown eyes may be hard to distinguish from more contrasted seasons at first glance.
Dark Autumn Skin tones: Like hair and eyes, Dark Autumn skin tones range from fair (sometimes even very fair) to deep, but are most commonly medium. Those who have more contrast between skin, hair and eyes in this season may often be mistaken for winter blends, and those who appear lighter may be taken for spring or summer blends, as the skin does not always present with an obviously warm overtone.
Dark Autumn Color Dimensions
Dark Autumn’s predominant color quality is darkness. This doesn’t mean that they must wear only head to toe dark looks, or that all of their colors are dark, but simply that of all seasons excluding Dark Winter, this coloring has the least tolerance for lightness in color.
In addition to being dark, Dark Autumn is also warm-neutral. They can balance both warmer and cooler colors, even in the same outfit, but overall their best colors do have a warmer quality.
Finally, Dark Autumn colors are medium-bright. Those with dark autumn coloring often believe they may be a winter or spring blend because very muted, pastel shades wash them out, while colors most people would consider relatively bright look healthy and balanced. This is true, however normal for the season. It is equally true that they are not at their best in the most extreme bright shades.
